Independent Long Island (ILI) what literally born yesterday, and yet it already enjoys significant recognition.

Independent Long Island was given kudos from prominent Fourth Worlders (neoindigenous folks) such as Thomas Naylor, Kirkpatrick Sale, and John Papworth. Thomas Naylor even ended a nice letter to the Governor of ILI with this blessing: "Long live Independent Long Island!"

As a new country project, Independent Long Island is already recognized by the Micronational Professional Registry (MPR), a not so insignificant international professional organization which recognizes the following nations and micronations:


On January 19, 2008 the www.ummoa and www.amomu domains came alive in the Cesidian Root, and with them the Governor of ILI founds the United Micronations Multi-Oceanic Archipelago (UMMOA). Independent Long Island also becomes a Founding Member of UMMOA, the international organisation.

On February 7, 2008 the Commonwealth Nations Research Society (CNRS) was born, and the Governor of Independent Long Island (ILI) became a Founding Member of the CNRS International Committee. CNRS also recognises Independent Long Island (ILI), and the Governor of ILI as its representative.

On March 18, 2008 the Live Nations international organisation is born, and Independent Long Island becomes a Founding Member.

On April 4, 2008 Independent Long Island (ILI) also became a proud member of the Middlebury Institute's Registry of North American Separatist Organizations.

1. An Internet-based micronation is not necessarily without land claims. UMMOA micronations — TTF-Bucksfan, Republic of Purbeck Road, and Socialist Federal Republic of Baugnia — do claim a small area of UMMOA, a territorial nation, and enough territory to build a small embassy, so not all Internet micronations are completely virtual.
